MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Michigan City residents are invited to apply for grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to lead projects in their neighborhoods that will enhance neighborhood appearance, cultivate engagement, and invigorate community pride.
The Michigan City Neighborhood Grant Program, a partnership between the City of Michigan City and Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, was designed to strengthen neighborhoods through beautification, enhancement and engagement projects.

“This program aims to empower residents to take ownership of their neighborhoods and work as a team toward a community-driven goal,” EDCMC Executive Director Clarence Hulse said. “We are looking for ideas that will take root and add to our neighborhoods – whether it’s something tangible like a flower garden or plans for a block party.”
Project concepts must meet specific criteria for approval, including volunteer and match requirements. Tree planting and landscaping, public art, entryway improvements, clean-up events, seasonal decorations, youth engagement activities and festivals are all eligible for consideration, and residents are encouraged to bring even more creative ideas to the table.
“Michigan City is now a member of America in Bloom, and that membership means something because our residents already show up for this place,” Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said. “They plant it, they paint it, they take care of it.
“This grant program is the City partnering with residents to do more of that, together. Whether it’s a flower bed on your corner or a mural on your block, we want to help you build the neighborhood you’re already proud to call home.”
Funds will be awarded monthly on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in September.
