Kevin Kieft of the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, Indiana (EDCMC) recently participated in leadership training, completing additional certification to aid area businesses in expansion, retention and re-location.

Kieft, EDCMC executive director, attended the International Economic Development Council Leadership Summit Jan. 27 through 29. This summit focused on job creation, tax-base stabilization and community growth and development. In addition, the summit included presentations and workshops on ethics, the international marketplace and farming industry.

Prior to the three-day leadership course, Kieft completed the Managing Economic Development Organizations course — just one of the many courses required for eligibility towards the Certified Economic Development exam. “I enjoy furthering my training for the betterment of our Michigan City business community. As an advocate for area manufacturing- and industrial-based businesses, I strive to stay up-to-date with all factors that may aid a business in our community,” he said.

Previously, Kieft has completed several professional development courses, including: certificate in leadership and management, organizational management and economic development from Purdue University North Central; Disney Institute courses; as well as economic development credit analysis and business retention and expansion.
