The EDCMC and LEAP kicked off their collaborative 2026-28 Economic Development Investment Campaign with an Investor Social.
The Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City and La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership have worked together for more than 20 years to establish a strong base of economic development in La Porte County.
“Our collaboration has continued to create opportunities that benefit both cities and lays the groundwork for our county to experience a stronger economic development vitality,” said EDCMC Executive Director Clarence L. Hulse.
“We appreciate the support that all of you have given in 20+ years,” said Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch. “We are at a crossroads with so much going on. It takes effort, takes funding, takes time … we appreciate you.”
The combined effort raised more the $600,000 to bolster economic development during the last campaign, supporting efforts that have led to unprecedented capital investment in the communities.
“It was hard to imagine discussing billions – with a B – of capital investment going into this, but now that is where we stand,” said LEAP Executive Director Bert Cook. “Through this tremendous partnership and your support this is possible.”
“Without all of you, nothing would happen. There is so much opportunity,” said La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody. “On Day One, we said we believed in what La Porte can be and what our residents deserve. Don’t stop believing as we have more work to do. High standards and high expectations, expecting a win will continue.”
The campaign will run through 2028 with a goal of $800,000. Investors can make a 3-year pledge that is an investment donation through the Unity Foundation of La Porte County. “Business owners, professional, employers, manufacturers and service providers are the foundation of our economic development endeavors as we are building economic success together,” Francesconi said.
