Our Phoenix Award honorees have transformed a space or existing building in Michigan City to reinvigorate not only the spot, but also the business itself. The “rising-from-the-ashes” reinventive processes have cultivated a more impactful revival as well as additional offerings and services to boost our entrepreneurial community. Congrats to this year’s 3 special spots!
Burn ‘Em Brewing
The crew of friends took on the remodel of 1215 East 2nd Street and brought the former warehouse building back to life with more room for their brewery, restaurant, taproom and event center. Steve Murray, Blake Murray, Howie Wiesjahn, Matt Zakrzewski and Daniel Moser originally brought the brewery to Freyer Road in 2014 with an eclectic vibe that is now at a new level with the team’s expanded location. Closer to the action, the refreshed space serves up live music, special events, unique food and Burn ‘Em’s own brews.
Lakefront Salon & Spa
The spa and salon on Franklin Street has been serving clients for more than 25 years. Diana Smith and her team of stylists moved into their new location at 912 Franklin Street in March of 2023. The salon provides a mix of services, including color, cut, style, texturizing, massages, nails and more.
