The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, Indiana (EDCMC) recently elected its 2019 officers at a regular Board of Directors meeting in December.
Stephanie Oberlie, President & COO for Harbour Trust & Investment Management Company, was elected as Chair of the EDCMC Board. Linda Simmons, Director of Marketing for Visit Michigan City-LaPorte, was elected as Vice Chair for the board. In addition, Dennis Kuhn, Executive Vice President of Horizon Bank, was elected Treasurer. All officers were elected into their roles unanimously by the EDCMC Board.
Outgoing Chairman, Bill Hackney, Publisher of The News-Dispatch, said, “It has been an exciting year for me and the rest of the EDCMC Board as we work with staff and the business community to bring long planned projects to fruition. Of particular note this past year was the annexation of large acreage into the City for future development and the update of the EDCMC Strategic Action Plan. We have developed lots of synergy with our public and private partners and have created an unlimited pipeline for community and economic development projects.”
Incoming Chairman, Stephanie Oberlie said, “I am excited and looking forward to seeing more significant economic development projects in Michigan City. The community is moving in the right direction and the business community are encouraged with the many quality of life initiatives the City has undertaken as it makes it easier for them to recruit employees.”
Current Board members who were re-elected into their roles unanimously by the EDCMC Board are: Don Babcock, Director Economic Development of NIPSCO; Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent of the Michigan City Area Schools; Bill Kaminski, Attorney at Newby Lewis Kaminski Jones LLP;
Newly elected member to the EDCMC Board of Directors, serving a three year term is Tim Haas, Owner of Haas & Associates Consulting Engineers, LLC.
Other Board members include: Michigan City Mayor, Ron Meer; Tim Bietry, Michigan City Common Council; Rick Dekker, CEO of Dekker Vacuum Technologies, Inc.; Dean Mazzoni, President and CEO of Franciscan Health-Michigan City; Anna Ratdke, Manager of Bridges Waterside Grille; Brenda Temple, General Manager of Blue Chip Hotel, Casino & Spa; and Brian Tylisz, Vice-President, Sales of Sullair – A Hitachi Group Company.
The purpose of the EDCMC Board of Directors is to uphold the duties and mission of the organization which strives to grow and attract new industry and business to the community as well as strengthening existing business and also guide the staff in policy decisions, strategy, evaluation, and resources.
