MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – The Economic Development Corporation Michigan City, Indiana (EDCMC) recently elected its 2016 officers at a regular Board of Directors meeting in December.
Don Babcock, NIPSCO’s Director of Economic Development was elected as Chairman of the EDCMC Board and Leif Erickson, Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa Vice President & General Manager was elected Vice Chairman. In addition, Tom Edwards, Horizon Bank President/COO was reelected Secretary/Treasurer.
Outgoing Chairman Joie Winski, La Porte County Auditor, said, “It has been a great honor and also a privilege to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors; working with such a diverse and motivated team has been rewarding. The EDCMC continues to be the standard of innovation and community and economic development in Northwest Indiana.”
All officers were elected into their roles unanimously by the EDCMC Board.
Incoming Chair, Don Babcock said, “The EDCMC has had a terrific year expanding on new community partnerships and is looking forward to a massive 2016 with so many new projects already on the drawing board. The EDCMC is excited to show developers and investors that Michigan City, Indiana is all in and open for business- Create. Play. Repeat.”
Newly appointed members to the EDCMC Board of Directors are Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent of the Michigan City Area Schools; Greg Hutchison, Vice President & General Manager, Sullair LLC; Bill Kaminski, Newby Lewis Kaminski Jones LLP.
Other Board members include: Michigan City Mayor, Ron Meer; Tim Bietry, Michigan City Council President; Chuck Compton, Chicago South Shore & South Bend Freight Railroad Chief Administrative Officer; Rick Dekker, Dekker Vacuum Technologies President; Bill Hackney, The News Dispatch Publisher; Peggy Moore, Dage-MTI CEO; and Joie Winski, La Porte County Auditor.
The purpose of the EDCMC Board of Directors is to uphold the duties and mission of the organization, which strives to grow and attract new industry and business to the community as well as strengthening existing business and also guide the staff in policy decisions, strategy and evaluation and resources.
