The La Porte County Economic Development Alliance, in partnership with the cities of Michigan City and La Porte, hosted the “Made in La Porte County” products showcase. The public event was held on Dec. 2, 2012 at Marquette Mall in Michigan City. The La Porte County Unity Foundation sponsored the event.
This special event allowed numerous local firms to display and “showcase” their products that are manufactured, assembled or distributed from right here in La Porte County. Several local citizens and visitors viewed the interesting products first hand, all at one location.
“The public can actually see, touch and feel products manufactured in La Porte County,” stated La Porte Mayor Kathy Chroback. The event also provided an opportunity for local businesses to interface with one another on a “business to business” basis.
Another great feature of the event was the opportunity for visiting high school and college students throughout the county to get acquainted with local industries, their products, career opportunities and required skills.
“For the local workforce to develop and support our existing industry it is critical for our students to be introduced to our companies pursue appropriate training,” said Michigan City Mayor Chuck Oberlie.
La Porte County Councilman Rich Mrozinski, mayors Oberlie and Chroback and local manufacturers participated in the day’s events. “It’s surprising to see the variety of equipment and products that are made right here in our county and shipped around the world,” said Councilman Mrozinski.
A special ceremony was held with T-shirt give-a-ways.
